                                                                    School Psychologist

                                                  (Position Available for 2017-18 School Year)

JOB GOAL:   To improve the school educational experience of the students in the Cartwright School District.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree or higher from an NASP or APA approved program in School Psychology.
  • A valid Arizona School Psychologist certificate.
  • Proficiency in all computer functions including word processing.

Must be able to type your own reports.

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assesses difficulties of referred students through appropriate testing and diagnostic practices.
  1. Administers tests and recommends placement for exceptional children within the limits of applicable state regulations.
  2. Helps identify within the school all types of exceptional children.
  3. Maintains a case record on all referred student.
  4. Recommends corrective procedures.
  5. Confers with teachers and parents whenever necessary.
  6. Consults on educatioal needs of children in all special education programs.
  1. Attends case conferences on placement of individual students.
  2. Serves as a consultant on mental health topics in the schools.
  3. Chairs 504 Team at the assigned schools.
  4. Chairs Child Study team at assigned schools.
  5. Interprets school psychological services for teachers and parents.
  6. Prepares and submits required reports on children in special education programs.
  7. Cooperates with personnel of community health and social welfare agencies.
  8. Acts as liaison between the School District and Special Education departments in other school districts.
  9. Attends staff, professional and interagency meetings.
  10. Assists with in-service training of school personnel.

 

  1. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field.
  2. Assumes leadership position for all special education programs on site.
  3. Conducts workshops and inservices for special education and regular education staff on various topics as needed or directed by Special Services.
  4. Possesses ability to engage in short-term counseling.
  5. Possesses ability to perform functional behavioral assessments and participate with other team members in developing behavior intervention plans.
  6. Is integral in developing proactive interventions for children (regular and special education) experiencing discipline problems.
  7. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Employment year is nine months Fringe Benefits, Salary based on 2017-2018 School Psychologists’ Schedule
