                                         Title I School Improvement Program Specialist (S.I.P.S.)

 

 

JOB GOAL: The Title I School Improvement Specialist is a master teacher and a communication link for curriculum and instruction issues between District Curriculum and Instruction, other departments and the assigned Title I school site. The goal of the school improvement specialist is to build capacity in the use of effective instruction by providing ongoing coaching, demonstration teaching, program monitoring, and prescriptive intervention strategies for all teachers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience with excellent evaluations
  • Effective in communication, planning, organization, presentation, and leadership skills; able to work with and motivate others
  • Ability to plan and present information/training for the adult learner
  • Demonstrates desire to increase and enhance own professional knowledge, skills, and expertise about effective instruction and school improvement
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of effective instructional strategies and research-based best practices
  • Knowledge of effective coaching practices
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of a variety of assessment methods
  • Understands and interprets assessment data, both formal and informal, to inform instructional decisions
  • Understands the purpose and specifics of core, supplemental, and intervention programs
  • Knowledge and understanding of effective strategies for instructing diverse learners
  • Experience working with site-based teams
  • Able to work effectively and efficiently without constant supervision and under stressful timelines
  • Demonstrates knowledge of national, state, and district standards and trends concerning instructional methods, resources, and strategies
  • Demonstrates proficiency with technology including presentation equipment, word processing and desktop publishing; and a willingness to innovatively use technology
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to continuous improvement supporting the Continuous Improvement Plan
  • Expertise in working with colleagues in areas of professional development, learning teams, new teacher support and/or instructional planning
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills in areas such as mentoring; classroom management; alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment; peer coaching
  • Exemplary professional relationships with teachers, administrators, parents, students and community
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Site Administrator

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

  1. Supports the goals, objectives, strategies and programs of the district
  2. Is a communication link between the district and school sites
  3. Develops and/or provides professional development
  4. Assists the alignment of standards/curriculum with related instructional materials, strategies and activities
  5. Assists the design and creation of materials and assessments to align with standards and performance objectives
  6. Is an active, participating member of district assigned curriculum committees
  7. Attends district-level meetings and trainings
  8. Completes other duties as assigned
  9. Disseminates and discusses curriculum related district issues and information to/with site administrators and/or teachers
  10. Assists with the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the school’s improvement plan and align student needs with Title I expenditures/budget
  11. Ensures that AZ ELA /Math Standards are the foundation of instruction and integrates with other content areas
  12. Assists and supports staff (principals, classroom teachers, special education teachers and instructional assistants) in providing effective instruction and improving student achievement
  13. Supports district staff in mentoring new/probationary teachers in establishing effective instructional strategies and classroom management techniques
  14. Coordinates and provides on-site curriculum related professional development (class demos, workshops, in-services, classes, etc.)
  15. Attends site-based leadership team, grade-level, and/or staff meetings
  16. Keeps principals, teachers, and instructional assistants up to date on effective instructional strategies, techniques, activities and materials, that through research, have proven to increase student achievement
  17. Models best instructional practices through classroom demonstration lessons
  18. Assists staff with the understanding and interpretation of assessment data to inform instructional decisions
  19. Coaches staff members in effective instruction
  20. Supervises, schedules, informs, trains, and evaluates instructional assistants
  21. Ensures student eligibility and participation in extended services are maintained (before/after school or summer school)
  22. Assists with staff training and ensuring that Time and Effort logs are reviewed, maintained and enforced
  23. Assists and/or coordinates the implementation and interpretation of a comprehensive needs assessment with Title I guidance
  24. Assists with coordination of parental involvement meetings, workshops, family academic events, curriculum nights
  25. Becomes aware and knowledgeable of current ESEA/ESSA guidelines

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Teacher Salary Schedule and fringe benefits as approved by the Governing Board.
