CLASS SUMMARY:

Incumbents are responsible for the procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies for the District. 

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Buyer is a stand alone classification.  The Buyer is distinguished from other classifications by its responsibility for procuring materials, equipment and supplies for the District.

1.

Orders materials, supplies, and equipment for the District.

Contacts vendors to determine order status, acquire information on current products and pricing, and to select appropriate materials, supplies, and/or equipment.

Assists employees, administrators, and vendors with questions and/or concerns.

Reviews requisitions to verify purchase requirements are compatible with District standards and ensure cost-effective vendors are utilized.

Training and Experience (position requirements at entry):

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.), and two years of related buyer experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

 

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
