CLASS SUMMARY:

Incumbents are responsible for performing a wide variety of routine facility and grounds maintenance activities. Incumbents serve as a lead to Facility Maintenance Technicians.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Lead Facility Maintenance Technician is the third level in a three level building maintenance series. The Lead Facility Maintenance Technician is distinguished from the Facility Maintenance Technician by its lead responsibility for Facility Maintenance Technicians.

1.

Serves as a lead to Facility Maintenance Technicians, including assigning and monitoring work.

2.

Performs routine grounds maintenance activities, which may include: mowing, edging, weed eating, tree trimming, blowing sidewalks, fertilizing, picking up and disposing of trash, maintaining sprinklers, and performing other related activities.

Repairs a variety of electrical, plumbing, building, and facility structures, fixtures, and systems.

Ensures facilities are properly cleaned and buildings are secured.

Monitors inventory; receives, stores, and distributes supplies and equipment; notifies appropriate individual of low or depleted supplies, equipment, and materials.

Arranges furniture as needed for school activities.

Performs routine safety inspections to ensure compliance with applicable codes.

Participates in custodial activities, which includes: maintaining and cleaning floors and walls; painting walls; shampooing, stripping, and waxing floors;

Performs routine inspections and maintenance on District equipment and machinery, which includes air conditioning units, lawn equipment, vacuums, water heaters, and other related items.

Knowledge (position requirements at entry):

Knowledge of:

·       Applicable Federal, state, local, and District rules, policies, regulations, standards, and laws;

·       Inventory principles;

·       Basic sanitation principles and equipment;

·       Commercial cleaning equipment;

·       Cleaning chemicals and their usage;

·       Basic cleaning techniques;

·       Basic grounds maintenance practices;

·       Safety and security procedures;

·       Basic mathematics.

 

Skills (position requirements at entry):

Skill in:

·       Assigning and monitoring work;

·       Prioritizing tasks;

·       Monitoring facilities and grounds for compliance with safety regulations and standards;

·       Maintaining inventory levels;

·       Sanitizing and cleaning;

·       Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment;

·       Using custodial equipment;

·       Cleaning offices, restrooms, hallways, and other facilities;

·       Proper handling of chemicals;

·       Operating grounds maintenance equipment;

·       Using custodial equipment such as vacuums and buffers;

·       Setting up classrooms, gyms, and other areas for special events;

·       Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, staff, students, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

 

Training and Experience (position requirements at entry):

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.), and four years of related facility maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts and chemicals.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.
