CLASS SUMMARY:

Incumbents are responsible for supervising warehouse employees and operations ensuring an efficient warehouse and inventory/delivery system.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Materials Supervisor is the third level of a three level warehouse series.  The Materials Supervisor is distinguished from the Materials Handler/Driver and Food Services Materials Handler/Driver by its supervisory responsibilities.

Supervises employees to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.

Receives deliveries from vendors, ensuring proper products, quantities, and quality.

Places received items into stock and rotates old stock.

Processes food orders for kitchen sites.

Prepares weekly delivery schedules; reviews deliveries to ensure accuracy; distributes schedules to drivers.

Knowledge of:

·       Supervisory principles;

·       Methods and procedures of inventory systems and warehousing;

·       Wide variety of materials, supplies, tools, and equipment;

·       Record keeping principles;

·       Delivery procedures;

·       Receiving procedures;

·       Filing procedures;

·       Basic math;

·       Applicable rules and regulations;

·       Vehicle maintenance practices;

·       Customer service principles.

 

Skills (position requirements at entry):

Skill in:

·       Monitoring and evaluating employees;

·       Using a computer and applicable software applications;

·       Entering data into a computer;

·       Preparing schedules;

·       Operating trucks, forklifts, pallet jacks, sweepers, and other related equipment;

·       Recognizing problems with shipments;

·       Interpreting information on packing lists;

·       Providing customer service;

·       Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

 

Training and Experience (position requirements at entry):

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.), and three years of warehouse, driver, or courier experience, including one year of lead experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. 

 

Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry):

·       Valid Arizona Driver’s License;

·       Ability to obtain Forklift Certification.

Some positions may require:

·       Commercial Driver’s License within 45 days;

·       Food Service Worker Card within 30 days.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Incumbents may be subjected to poor ventilation, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions, and travel.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.
