SYSTEMS ENGINEER ADMINISTRATOR
Under general supervision, this position provides the highest level of technical expertise to perform or direct the work of others in installations, configurations and the maintenance of systems to include workstations and servers, to meet long-term requirements of systems operations and maintain the integrity and reliability of the system. Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Information Technology Technicians and Help Desk. Identifies, researches, and resolves complex technical problems. Creates and manages escalation procedures and ensures service levels are maintained. Documents, tracks, and monitors problems to ensure resolution in a timely manner.
4 year college degree in computer science or related field
Over 5 years systems, project and supervisory experience in Information
Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate with others of
varying technical abilities at all levels.
Ability to act individually and as a team member in resolving problems and
completing projects on time and within budget.
Possession of good customer service skills with a positive and helpful attitude.
Any combination of education and experience relative to the above qualifications
as the Governing Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Acts as a team leader and supervisor that directs the work of others, assign personnel to various projects, and evaluate the work performed. Provides direction and guidance to lesser-experienced systems technician staff to assist them in their role and understanding of complex server operating systems administration to include applications, Active Directory, virtualization, server technologies, storage, wireless, Apple, Chromebook and Windows devices.
Ensures that long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are included in the overall information systems planning of the organization.
Performs the most complex software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
Develops, recommends, and implements operating system enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the system.
Monitors and tunes the systems to achieve optimum performance levels.
Supports the operating systems and related infrastructures by resolving escalated and highly complex trouble tickets in a timely and efficient manner.
Ensures workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Provides recommendations to senior or executive IT management regarding hardware and system software planning and budgeting.
Develops and maintains a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation.
Maintains an Information Technology hardware and software inventory and
tracking of devices, to include patching levels.
Designs and/or approves architecture of new systems and technologies.
Maintains and increases professional and technical knowledge by attending
workshops and participating in professional development activities.
Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Extensive knowledge and understanding of operating systems, and server environments as normally obtained through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering or related field and/or 5 years hands on experience.
Must have sufficient educational background and/or experience to work at the highest technical level on all phases of system administration and engineering.
Five years’ experience working in advanced operating systems and server technologies. Advanced experience in TCP/IP environments required.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of operating systems, including understanding and ability to perform paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and device drivers, file system concepts, volume management, performance analysis to tune systems, and system security.
Extensive understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts, principles of routing, client/server programming, virtualization and the design of consistent network-wide files system layouts.
Knowledge and experience scripting including PowerShell.
Highest level of knowledge and experience with the architecture of new
technologies to design or redesign systems.
Experience with the supervision or direction of other systems administration staff
preferred. Highest level of knowledge and proven skill with large, complex projects and device rollouts and distribution required. Additionally, a significant knowledge and proficient skill with hardware required for connectivity and installation operations as described above.
Must possess the ability to communicate well with others to perform work in a team environment, direct and act as a resource for less experienced systems technicians as described above.
Must possess the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
Must have the ability to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the event that
services are required.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Reports To: Chief Technology Officer
Supervises: Information Technology Technicians
Term: Employment is twelve months
Beginning Salary Range: $60,000 to $80,000
