Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for EL Immigrant Families

(Position available for 2019-20 School Year)

Job Goal:

To provide leadership and supervisory skills for the educational development of EL immigrant students. Responsible for performing a broad range of support activities pertaining to EL immigrant parents/community outreach programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • Hold a current BLE/ESL or SEI endorsement
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience
  • Demonstrates knowledge of English Language Development (ELD) and proficiency in teaching as evidenced by administrator’s evaluations and 3 or more years of high student achievement. Demonstrates strong knowledge of Responsive to Intervention (RTI)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of state and federal program guidelines for servicing English
  • Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

REPORTS TO: Educational Services Administrator

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage in parent and family outreach programs for EL immigrant
  • Ensure EL immigrant students receive English immersion
  • Work with teachers to ensure a coherent instructional program for English immersion based on new updated SEI
  • Identify and implement academic programs for EL immigrant children to improve academic achievement.
  • Provide EL immigrant children with academic and career
  • Identify and implement programs for EL immigrant children to help them understand the educational and local, state, and federal governmental systems in the United
  • Plan and organize activities to bring EL immigrant families into the
  • Educate EL immigrant families, in coordination with community-based programs, institutions of higher education, and other entities, in community and educational services to help EL immigrant families succeed in the United
  • Create workshops, trainings and provide direct assistance to ease the integration of families who have trouble understanding or navigating the school district’s
  • Assume responsibility for the implementation and observance of all district policies, rules, and administrative directives.
  • Provide training to parent liaisons who provide services to EL immigrant
  • Build positive relationships between the school and its community of EL immigrant parents and families.
  • Implement parent leadership training to empower parents to effectively advocate for their EL immigrant children.
  • Performs other work-related duties of similar nature or level.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Employment year is nine months. Salary and fringe benefits as approved by the Governing Board.
