Teacher of the Accelerated Learner for Cartwright School District Accelerated Learner Program

                                                    2019-2020 School Year

JOB GOAL: To assist Special Services Director and Assistant Director and the school site in accelerating

learning for high-ability learners.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified elementary or secondary teacher.

  • At least three (3) years of teaching experience with excellent evaluations as evidenced by

    administrator’s evaluation and student learning.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in teaching advanced/high-achieving learners as evidenced by

    principal’s evaluations and student achievement.

  • Demonstrates skills necessary to assist classroom teachers with the implementation

    and integration of best practice teaching models and instructional methodologies into their accelerated learning classrooms.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in principles, strategies and methods of working with high-achieving students.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the state’s educational standards.

  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and works comfortably with adults.

  • Holds high expectations for her/himself and colleagues, as well as students.

  • Stays focused, open and committed to a set of beliefs with a willingness to accept the

    challenges of sharing a strong and committed belief in advanced and accelerated education for diverse
    student populations.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in accelerated and advanced education as evidenced by working with colleagues, attending and presenting at conferences, workshops and classes.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in communicating in a meaningful way with all stakeholders regarding high-achieving classroom instructional strategies.

  • Evidence of independent decision-making skills.

  • Evidence of collaborative skills.

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

  • Provides appropriate training and orientation for instructional staff (principal, classroom teacher,

    counselor, ELL support and Special Education) in the development of the Accelerated Student Learning Plan.

  • Promotes collaboration between school administration, staff and parents for the purpose of maintaining effective, consistent and regular communication between all stakeholders

REPORTS TO: Director, Assistant Director, and Site Administrator

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Support:

  • Provides differentiated instruction through enrichment services for accelerated students at the school sites by working with identified accelerated classroom teachers.

  • Works with grade level teams to develop and implement consistent accelerated programming at the building level.

  • Models lessons on various subjects and skills for teachers and students.

  • Identifies areas of strengths in students and plans appropriate accelerated lessons.

Teacher Support:
  • Provides classroom support in effectively teaching high-achieving learners.

  • Provides classroom support consistent that may include co-planning with teachers, and providing

    resources.

  • Applies knowledge of teaching adults as learners to enhance program development.

  • Assist teachers in developing and providing accelerated students with enriched or alternative

    course work through curriculum modification.

  • Promotes collaboration between classroom teachers and the site administration.

  • Provides materials and information to help create an environment that provides options for the

    accelerated learners.

  • Helps teachers to analyze the student data on a regular basis in ELA and Math in order to provide

    teachers coaching on flexible groupings and content acceleration.

COMMUNICATION:
  • Meets weekly with Special Services Gifted Team

  • Coordinates with district communications department to recruit interested advanced learners.

  • Coordinates CESD Accelerated Learner related meetings and events.

  • Develop/Present PLC at school site and participates in campus professional learning communities

    (PLCs).

  • Communicates with parents, teachers and students on a regular basis, including but not limited to

    informational flyers, parent/teacher conferences, hosting family nights/events on campus, hosting informational meetings at the site level.

TESTING/RECORDS:
  • Coordinates record keeping and reporting as required.

  • Coordinates entrance testing for the accelerated learner program.

  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and

    administrative regulation.

PD/Trainings:

  • Participates in staff development activities such as

    • Content workshops

    • Summer institutes

    • Monthly meetings

  • Continues own professional development through at least the following activities:

    • involvement in professional organizations

    • attendance and presentation at professional conferences

    • facilitation of colleague visits and school visitations

    • preparation of publications and continuous professional reading.

  • Keeps current of best practices and research through

    • professional articles

    • book studies

    • Webinars

  • Assists in providing training for all certified and classified instructional staff on instructional

    practices for advanced and accelerated learners.

  • Develop and conduct/arrange professional development sessions, including but not limited to:

    • Meeting the needs of Accelerated Learners

    • Accelerated Parent Information Nights

  • Assist in the coordination and facilitate accelerated student/parent meetings, including: 

  •               Family nights
  •               Barretts

Other:

  • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism.

  • Assists with the development and management of accelerated learning and intervention budgets

    and grant programs.

  • Researches and evaluates trends in accelerated learning, intervention, and alternative learning

    programs.

  • Travel as required to fulfill responsibilities of the job.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Employment 213 days (subject to annual calendar change). Salary schedule approved by the Governing Board).
